Executed Renaissance: Tribute Exhibition

This event is organised and run by shevchenko.philia and reposted by MUCCS to promote Ukrainian cultural events in Scotland.
Please get in touch if you would like us to repost your event on our calendar.

This exhibition explores the rich yet tragic history of Ukraine’s Rozstriliane Vidrodzhennia (Executed Renaissance), a movement that flourished in the 1920s–1930s but was brutally suppressed under Stalinist repressions.

Through film, art, and storytelling, the event seeks to foster cross-cultural understanding and appreciation of Ukraine’s cultural legacy.

It features a screening of Slovo House: Unfinished Novel (2017) by Taras Tomenko, a documentary exploring the lives of Ukrainian artists in the 1920s within the infamous Slovo House, as well as a display of visual and literary works from key figures of the movement.

The exhibition consists of a ‘memorial plaque’ of all those killed, persecuted, and emigrated; photographs of historical places and personalities; documents from the NKVD archives; drawings, caricatures, paintings, magazines, and almanacs published by representatives of the movement.
